A few weeks ago, my car got the shakes. I am immediately reminded of all of the regularly scheduled tune-ups that I have been too lazy/cheap to take care of. Honda always sends me those friendly reminders in the mail with the coupons attached to them.
I file them away, fully intending on acting upon them, but then never did. In my mind to get the shakes fixed along with all those missed tune-ups I'm going have to pay at least $10,000, probably $20,000.
Finally I took the car in to the dealer, with the full understanding that it was going to cost me at least $20,000 probably more like $50,000. The next day, I walked out with my car and a bill of $893.47. It was practically free.
See what expecting the worse can do for you?
Oh ugh.. I hate car issues. Since mine is somewhat new still, I prefer to take it to the original dealer. But, the two times that I've got a second opinion, it's saved me thousands.. literally. Blah! But, yeah, next time, I'll try your trick. Although, the only reason I usually give in and take it is because I'm telling myself, "Less than $200, less than $200.."

Getting second opinions is probably wise. The process is so annoying as it is, I typically don't have the patience for second opinions but I guess I should.
