Yesterday Ashley came by my work to take me out to lunch. Trying someplace new, we settled on the Austin Grill in Downtown Silver Spring. The experience was just okay. The one thing that I really remember is something that happens all too often at these mid-level chain restaurants, the wandering manager with the phony-baloney smile traveling from table to table asking how everything is.
I'd like to ask them, "Are you asking because you hate and don't trust your servers? Are you asking because you plan on going over the top in providing us with great service? Or are you asking simply because you're bored and you enjoy validation?" Have you ever noticed the random 'manager check' while your drinks need refilling? They're lack of talent is offensive.
